Incorporating found sounds and giving them some modular synths treatment we also weave in a splash of vocals with effects.
Combining our varied audio inspirations and depth of experience we make the sound that is ELENOiiD: exploratory, textural, playful and moving.
Hearing urban poetry in the sounds around us and seeing beauty in the everyday: these things inspire us. Curiously listening and looking, we’re struck by the extraordinary in unexpected ways.
We love bringing in to our music intriguing found sounds that we come across and combining the music with imagery from fleeting moments of the everyday.
Movement is the inspiration for our new EP ‘Les Ballets’. The four pieces, Water, Trees, Machines and Time are all about movement. A choreography of elements, nature, men/women and machines and the progression of time.
Whether it’s the movement of rippling out or reflections in the rain: tiny drops or vast oceans, the movements of water inspired us. Our friend and talented musician Nick has described Water as:
We created the second piece ‘Trees’ whilst immersed in a cabin in the woods, taking in the majestic movements of magnificence of the trees around. A sense of mystery, awe and delicacy crept into our time there and into this piece.
For Machines we found ourselves curious about machines old and new and how us humans can be like machines. This piece is playful, with strong rhythms, interconnected beats and quirky found sounds. It’s energetic and fun!
In the final piece, Time we layer resonant synth melodies with an insistent pulsing bass. It feels like time is reflecting back with the nostalgic piano and then moving forwards reluctantly towards the end.
We couldn’t help but include recordings of Helen’s Grandma and Grandad’s chiming clock and her Mum and Dad’s pendulum clock ticking. Evoking time through the generations…
Didier was sitting in the railway shelter at Montpelier station in Bristol. Discovering the unexpected beauty hidden in the layers of graffiti, tags and stickers on the once clear panes of glass, he captured this on camera.
In our debut EP ‘A Piece of My Sky’ we create lyrical melodies, luminous dance beats and atmospheric moods. Through the four pieces, Indigo, Lumières, Sky and Gate, we take you on a sonic journey from birth, through an unfolding and vibrant cycle, to a place of mystery and beginning again.
Accompanying this EP, Didier created a website ‘A Piece of my Sky’ where you can upload photos to share a Piece of Your Sky.
A piece of my sky was born out of the desire to show connection between people. Wherever we are on the planet, seeing through someone else’s eyes connects us.
It’s a vibrant connecting project with wonderful photos and stories from around the world.
We’d love to include your photo, send us a Piece of Your Sky if you like the idea of this project.
